So many shows...

We at SoLow are trying to be on top of things. We wanted to give a blog post to each show, but as the number of artists continue to increase (we have 3 shows that have been added to the schedule this week!) and in the theme of SoLow's low stress, it appears we will have to merge several shows into one post.
The number of artists who are involved this year is nearly double of what we had last year! It is so exciting for SoLow Festival and we hope that audiences will be twice as large too.

Three shows to consider:
1- Chris Davis' Drunk Lion. Performing at Robin's Bookstore June 21-23rd. Drunk Lion is written in Spanish and English, but it’s all translated for
you in the action, so no one is left behind! The writer Chris Davis lived for 3 years in
Mexico, and the play documents some of his over-the-top experiences and ultimately is
a dedication to his second home country.
Chris embodies all of the characters exploring languages, loss, alcoholism, and how universal stories can be found in every corner of the world. Even Lions get drunk in cantinas!

Playwright Chris Davis, now Philly based, is originally from Oakland, CA. He received training from the National Theatre Institute (Fall 2004) and received a B.A. from Albright College. Recently his screenplay Ringo was selected for the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.

2- You may have seen Josh Hitchens performing at a variety of Philly theatres including: Curio, Mauckingbird, BCKSEET, and Quince to name a few. Josh now brings Stoker's Dracula: A Solo Tale of Terror to SoLow.  Having previously performed Stoker's Dracula in theaters, museums, and people's living rooms. For the SoLow Festival's "Down and Dirty" theme, Josh is planning to perform in a creepy old basement for an intimate audience of ten.
Previous press for Josh's piece says: "You may have seen one of the hundreds of adaptations of the book, but you have never seen any quite like this.  Hitchens captures the spirit of the time and characters with a chilling fierceness.  The performance is intimate and at times intensely frightening." - Brian Stone, WHYY Newsworks.

3- Austin based artist David Azoulay presents God Unicorn Serpent. David has been an actor, dancer, improviser, sufi minister, and homeless maker of mischief. He has been in things, but has forgotten them. He sings too.

God Unicorn Serpent is a semi-improvised narrative that blends autobiography with forays into magical-religious realities where jeezus, the devil, aliens and unicorns are all at play.
The show is intended to be different each night, and to involve some level of audience
participation for those who choose it. The show will be performing at the Adrienne and the Arts Parlor for several performances throughout the festival.

This is just a taste of some of the "Down and Dirty" shows this year.
